Why walk Atlanta?
Take an Atlanta Walk?
When we are asked if there are good places to take a walk in Atlanta, we respond with an enthusiastic, yes!
Atlanta is a city filled with interesting neighborhoods to explore - beautiful buildings, tree lined streets and great stories to share. Whether you are a visitor or a local we encourage you to lace up your sneakers and take a walk to really get to know the city.
Visitors often begin with the Beltline, a project that re-imagined 19th century railroad tracks into a 21st century walking trail. There is so much more.
Historic neighborhoods like the old Fourth Ward, Midtown and Inman Park invite wandering. Find your way to the corner of Virginia Avenue and North Highland for options for ice cream, book browsing, a cold beer or a good meal. Stroll Peeples Street in the West End for a reminder of home styles in the Victorian age. Find shady spot under a tree in one of Atlanta’s many parks. Options include Piedmont Park, the pocket parks of Ansley Park or the Olmsted Linear Parks along Ponce de Leon Avenue in Druid Hills. Start from Decatur Square and walk out Sycamore Street to see the town that is older than Atlanta. (And you can get to Decatur Square via MARTA if you are carless.) Meander along Peachtree Street to explore Midtown and see museums, dining options and general people watching.
